Around Sète, the right idea is not to immediately target a huge territory. The most coherent solution is to stay in the Thau Archipelago and the nearby coastline. In just a few kilometers, the atmosphere is already changing: small ports, waterside tables, quieter villages, beaches, ponds and clear promenades.

For the pond, oysters and small ports

Bouzigues, Mèze, Marseillan: three successful outings

If you want to get out of Sète without spreading yourself too thin, the Bassin de Thau already offers a great variety of formats.

  • Bouzigues: small size, direct connection to the water, tastings and a tranquil atmosphere. A safe bet for a few hours.
  • Mèze: larger, livelier, very pleasant for a stroll and lunch by the water.
  • Marseillan: port, lagoon, beach and vineyards make for a more complete day out without having to go far.

These three stages have one thing in common: they are a natural extension of a stay at Le Lazaret, without breaking the maritime rhythm of the voyage.

When you’re looking for more space or a different face of the territory

beaches, salt marshes, villages, lakeshores and quieter atmospheres

The beauty of a holiday around Thau is that you can change the atmosphere completely without having to drive too far.

Frontignan

With its beach, ancient salt marshes and wide-open light, Frontignan is ideal for days when you’re looking for fresh air, a view of the horizon and a feeling of a more horizontal coastline.

Vic-la-Gardiole & Mireval

For a side that’s more natural, more garrigue, more village too. A good option when you want to get away from the urban ribbon and get back to a simpler decor.

Balaruc & the villages

A stroll by the pond, a softer atmosphere, narrow streets, stones and a slower pace: useful when you want to slow down a bit.

Choose your own pace

a few hours, a half-day or a more mobile outing

The right perimeter around Sète depends less on distance than on the actual mood of the day. Three formats are often enough.

Very easy exit

Bouzigues or Balaruc work very well for a few hours: few roads, easy-to-read atmosphere, light walking and a break by the water.

Lunch + walk

Mèze or Marseillan provide enough material for a pleasant half-day, with no pressure and plenty of time for eating and walking.

A more mobile day

You can then combine beach, coastal road and village. The key is to avoid piling on too many stages, or you risk losing the pleasure of your stay.

Our basic advice

  • Better one or two well-chosen outings in close proximity than a large, scattered inventory.
  • TheEtang de Thau is the natural extension of a stay at Le Lazaret.
  • The best days often combine a walk, a view, good food and a simple return to the estate.

And further afield in Occitania?

Montpellier, Nîmes, Carcassonne, Canal du Midi, Cévennes…

Visit Montpellier, treat yourself to a city break, and discover all the charm of this southern city! Or head for the Causses and Cévennes, for a dizzying and relaxing holiday in the land of cheeses and hiking! Perhaps you’d prefer the Canal du Midi, a world of silence between vineyards and garrigue, or you’d like to take to the stars on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela! As history mingles with tradition, opt for Nîmes, Carcassonne or Narbonne, and discover the Pont du Gard, Cathar castles, Vauban fortifications, medieval cities and much more!

These ideas can be developed over a longer day or as part of an extended stay.
