The Domaine du Lazaret in Sète is a historic vacation center founded in 1865 by Pastor Lucien Benoit, with a vocation for hospitality and solidarity, particularly for modest families and vulnerable people.
Today, it continues to promote access to restorative vacations for all, in an exceptional natural setting of three hectares of pine forest, with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea.
Created in 1865, it owes its name to the “Pointe du Lazaret”.
Le Lazaret takes its name from the “Pointe du Lazaret”, where the Protestant parish of Sète and Pastor Lucien Benoit created a sea bathing establishment in 1865. France’s first family home, the Lazaret welcomes families, groups, schoolchildren, seminars and people from all walks of life, in a climate of freedom that encourages encounters and personal development. Le Lazaret enjoys a strong reputation among many families, some of whom have been loyal guests for over 80 years.
Domaine du Lazaret in Sète has a rich and fascinating history. The site was once a quarantine facility, founded in the 18th century to accommodate ships and their crews before they could enter the port of Sète. The aim was to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, such as the plague, by isolating travelers for a set period of time.
Over time, the estate evolved into a care and treatment center for people suffering from various epidemics, serving as a sanitary control point for the region. In the 19th century, it was enlarged and modernized to meet growing needs.
Today, the Domaine du Lazaret is an emblematic site in Sète, often associated with its historical past, yet at the same time a space dedicated to cultural and social projects, symbolizing the resilience and evolution of this Mediterranean region.
